PRINCIPAL BIOS
James (Jim) Justus, P.E.
Mr. Justus brings over 30 years of engineering, project management, and litigation support experience across the United States and the Caribbean to his role as one of the three founding Principals at Mosaic. Mr. Justus earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 1984, and is a Registered Professional Engineer in twelve states.
Mr. Justus projects have included the Prudential and John Hancock Buildings in Boston, the Chicago Hilton & Towers in Chicago, OneAmerica Tower in Indianapolis, Fifth Third Tower in Columbus, OH, 300 Riverwood Tower in Atlanta, the Southeast Financial Tower in Miami, FL, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories in Livermore, CA, the Caribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the University of Trinidad and Tobago in Wallerfield, Trinidad, as well as hundreds of other properties.
Mr. Justus serves on the National Council for Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Civil Engineering committee, structural subcommittee, which produces the Professional Engineering Exam. He served as State President of the South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers (SCSPE), was named Engineer of the Year by SCSPE in 2004. He currently serves as the South Carolina House of Delegate member for the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and was named a National Fellow in 2014. Mr. Justus is affiliated with the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) having served on the connections committee, the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the Sealant Waterproofing, and Restoration Institute (SWRI).
Mark E. Leeman, P.E.
As a founding Principal at Mosaic, Mr. Leeman actively participates in execution of projects. The size of the firm enables him to take a hands-on role in each and every project, assuring his over 20 years of experience is used to achieve quality and efficiency. Mr. Leeman earned both his Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science degrees in Civil Engineering from Purdue University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in DC, Virginia, Georgia, and Indiana.
Mr. Leeman has conducted analyses and studies for thousands of properties. He has provided solutions to owners through repair recommendations and designs, as well as during implementation, by managing construction-phase services, including quality review visits, analyzing schedule and production and monitoring project costs relative to budgets. His specialty is the evaluation of existing conditions, diagnosis of deficiencies, and formulating practical and long-lasting remedies.
Mr. Leeman is recognized as a leader in the professional community, having served as President of the National Capital Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the facilities committee chair for American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC/MW), member of several American Concrete Institute (ACI) national committees, member of ASCE’s post-disaster assessment team for Philippines Hurricane Haiyan, and a Trustee of the ASCE Foundation.
Leslie G. ZumBrunnen, P.E.
Mr. ZumBrunnen, founding Principal at Mosaic, is a registered structural engineer and currently manages the Denver office. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (Construction) from the University of Wyoming, and his Master of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin, with a Structural concentration emphasis in pre-stressed concrete. Mr. ZumBrunnen served on the Advisory Board for the Civil and Architectural Engineering Program at the University of Wyoming from 2006 through 2014.
Mr. ZumBrunnen performs general and forensic evaluations of structural systems for the design of repairs, renovation, upgrades and restoration of existing facilities. Mr. ZumBrunnen is an industry-recognized expert in the repair and restoration of existing façade systems and is routinely retained to solve existing issues and perform forensic investigations. He has also provided expert testimony associated with façade, roofing and waterproofing failures. He employs evaluation techniques including both destructive and non-destructive testing methods, including ASTM and AAMA field water testing, x-ray, ultrasound, petrographic analysis, and typical laboratory testing.
Mr. ZumBrunnen’s projects have included parking garages (cast-in-place concrete, post-tensioned concrete, prestressed concrete, and metal framed); commercial office buildings, secure facilities (courthouses, airports, prisons), industrial facilities, hotel/resort, and multi-family featuring structural systems including pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete, cast-in-place concrete, timber framing, masonry (both CMU and conventional brick) and steel.
